Running in compatibility mode did not work for me on BOTH PCs I have. Install PB as a service using this download.

This is the recommended method of using PB under Vista according to the Evenbalance guy I emailed. You DO NOT need to run the game in compatibility mode using this method.

It works for RTCW:ET too, which also has a problem. On ET after installing the service you may have to go into the console and type:

/pb_cdkeyreg

This worked for me on ET, it took less than a minute to get a response from the PB servers and it has been fine since.

Google 8800 Vista FPS and you'll get a few hits! If you are still on XP, I'd wait a while and don't even go near 64bit.

Depending how many times it happens, I am considering dual booting with XP until the driver is stable.

Didn't work for me, only installing the pb services fixed the empty cd-key issue, unless you mean doing a reinstall then installing the service?
